Who Can Apply

Eligibility Criteria

Category 1 CGPA-Based (without GATE/NET)
  • M.Tech from a government-recognised institute with CGPA ≥ 6.0 on a 10-point scale.
  • B.Tech / BS / BE from a CFTI with CGPA ≥ 7.5 (OBC-NCL: 7.0; SC/ST/PwD: 6.5).
  • B.Tech / BS / BE from a NIRF Top 100 institute with the same CGPA requirements.
  • MA / MBA / M.Sc from IIT / IIM / IISc / IISER with CGPA ≥ 7.5 (OBC-NCL: 7.0; SC/ST/PwD: 6.5).
Category 2 GATE / NET Qualified
  • B.Tech / BS / BE or equivalent from a government-recognised institute with CGPA ≥ 6.0 AND a valid GATE / NET score.
  • MA / MBA / M.Sc or allied disciplines from a government-recognised institute with CGPA ≥ 6.0 AND a valid GATE / NET score.
Category 3 Work Experience-Based
  • MA / MBA / M.Sc or allied disciplines from a government-recognised institute with CGPA ≥ 6.0 AND two or more years of relevant professional experience.

Part-Time Programme

Part-Time Eligibility

  • Master's degree in a relevant discipline with CGPA ≥ 6.0 on a 10-point scale AND a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in academia or industry.
  • B.Tech / BS / BE in a relevant discipline with CGPA ≥ 6.0 on a 10-point scale AND a minimum of 2 years of professional work experience in academia or industry.
  • Part-time applicants are strongly encouraged to contact potential faculty guides and discuss their proposed research topic before applying.

How It Works

Selection Process

  1. Apply Online

    Submit application via the Samarth portal with academic records, research area preference, and supporting documents.

  2. Shortlisting

    Candidates shortlisted based on eligibility category, academic records, and alignment with available research areas.

  3. Written Test / Interview

    Shortlisted candidates appear for a written test and/or personal interview. Details communicated at shortlisting stage.

  4. Admission Offer

    Selected candidates receive offer letter with joining details, fellowship information, and campus reporting date.

Important Notes

  • The application fee is non-refundable.
  • One application fee is valid for a single application.
  • In case of two applications by the same candidate for the same research area, only the latest application will be considered.
  • Applications for research areas not invited by the institute may be rejected.
  • A candidate must submit a separate application for each research area they wish to apply for.
